The Center fosters a dialogue between the public and private sectors as well
as with nongovernmental organizations and public-interest groups, on energy
and marine transportation policy, including the following:
the environmental impacts of the production, transportation, and consumption
of energy, and the use of both market-based and regulatory approaches to
mitigate these impacts;
the responsibility of the private sector to address human-rights and
sustainable-development issues as an integral part of its business planning
and development activities;
the sometimes complementary, sometimes conflicting stakes of the private
and public sectors in multilateral trade and investment policies.
